I was only passing and didn't have time to get pictures. They are replacing concrete columns which are unsleeved and have long outreach brackets mainly with GEC 9480s. I wonder if this is a start of more side road replacements in Salisbury and is it the end of the Iridium as well...? They are still being installed up here (with SGS201s and Residiums) but it would be nice to see a few new installations crop up!

Well I had time to take a look at the Evolos in Salisbury today. Typically, after days of unbroken sunshine and clear blue skies, the weather clouded over so the images aren't that brilliant. A small replacement scheme is taking place along Bourne Avenue replacing Stantons with GEC Z9480s on long unsleeved brackets. Several of the old installations are dayburning. The new columns extend into Manor Road, but existing steel columns with Beta 5s are not being replaced. Close up of the Evolo.

I don't like Urbis but the Evolos actually do look quite stylish. I'd be interested in seeing what they look like on 5m side entry spigot brackets that had Beta 5s... They seem to be getting rid of concrete columns up here until fairly recently for whole street schemes (but retaining metal ones.) For the odd replacement, they just seem to be retrofitting to sleeved and unsleeved concrete columns... I'd be nice if they used Evolos more, to make a change. If I was the councilI might be tempted to install MRL6s aand use the excuse 'we're in a recession' to justify the downgrade! Of course there is always the possibility that they were installed by private contractors (if not a trial) - Which would explain our Sapphires up here. Our Manor road just has various Beta 5s on various columns, and also a MI50 and a SGS201

Big and out of proportion. Length wise they appear to be about the same size as an Iridium, and even though they are more streamlined they still seem large for side roads. Sapphire 1s and ZXU1s are much more compact and proportional for 5m columns.

So white light in Salisbury, only the 2nd installation after some of the Iriduims on the ring road. Can't wait till they get turned on.. They do actually look a lot better than the Iridium probably since they are not white and no where near as bulbous.

Just remembered this -
I don't think these concrete columns with the large curved and finned brackets are extinct in Wiltshire just yet because I spotted a couple still remaining on Marlborough Road by the roundabout with Pipers Way in Swindon. I think these are holding GEC Z9454 lanterns.
These columns are situated on an original alignment before the roundabout was constructed presumably in the '70s so this could be why these still survive today also the fact Swindon is administered independently from Wiltshire Council!
The current replacement installations are '70s octagonal steel columns with curved brackets fitted with Thorn Rivieras which I can remember the original Revo Hyperions being on these back in the early '90s.

Yep, Google seems to show that type of concrete column in Swindon and both Indust and I have seen large concrete bracketed columns - although we both saw them from a distance on different occasions - so there may be more modern concretes around too. I need to get up there one weekend have spend a day a doing a more thorough explore. My last trip did turn up this gem of an unsleeved Stanton 7b.

They do actually look a lot better than the Iridium probably since they are not white and no where near as bulbous. The lamp holder is pushed much farther into the optic so the acr tube of the lamp is dead centre. It's the same for the Cosmo Sapphires going up in York. I think that may be the only difference between a PGZ12 lampholder for Cosmo and the GU10 lampholder which (in theory) would also take a cosmo lamp - the PGZ12 has a metal sheath around the base and protrudes a bit more...
