Is John Thompson from Lancashire then?

That Eleco Lancaster was disused anyway and had been for a number of years. On Claire's website she says that:

Although this had been written some time before the lantern was removed and so I wondered if it had been forgotten about. I'm glad it's been saved as the end of the bracket was spalling badly and I was afraid the lantern could drop off.

for all I know, the Fancy Flying Saucer in Southport is probably being watched.

John Thompson was originally from Preston... his parents still live there but he's in edinburgh now.

I can probably guess the more ''eccentric'' preservationists probably have their eyes on every rare lantern currently in service. I could see them trying to outdo each other on who gets the rarest lantern in a never ending joke between collectors. :lol:

I don't think John has a website... I've never seen it published anyway.

I think there is sometimes a bit of Lantern Envy between preservationists, but whether any two people have tried "top trumps" with their lanterns I don't know! :lol:

ITV showed the first "On The Buses" feature film from 1971 earlier today (apologies for no advance notice). Sadly the film dialogue has dated over time, but the on-location filming is certainly worth a look. A few images from the film can be found online:

Like the crescent bracket concretes with possibly Phosco P152s (

), open lanterns on CU Avenue 2D columns, the row of saucers - which location is that? Can't be WSM as I thought they were on concretes. Also looks like a GEC9454 on a CU Avenue 3D. Are those up tilted main road lanterns fluorescent ( don't look "chunky" enough) or sodium?

I like those cresent brackets and bulky top entry sodium lanterns, and that Z9454 with curved unusual concrete bracket. Some great screencaps there!
