Looking at the aerial view, it might have been a central reservation column, the other side being a slip road of sorts.

I remember those odd possible GEC lanterns from when I was there, I also took photos of the heritage lanterns from the city walls.... near the racecourse there is an Iridium mounted on a very very short column.

I walked past the racecourse but I didn't see the short mounted Iridium.

If you walked the full length of the walls, did you spot the sliced 2000? It's on the canal pathway below the walls as it goes round a corner, no streetview image but it's roughly in this area (other side of canal to SV car).

I walked most of it as I started where the heritage clock thing is then went in an anticlockwise direction. Tried looking for any oddities, couldn't find the sliced WTRL 2000 but I did find a smashed four windowed, one piece bowl lantern as shown in one of the links that I have provide don the previous page on the opposite side of the road from the possible GEC lanterns.

I'm planning on visiting Chester again sometime soon, so I might be able to find a few more hidden lanterns.

That is ridiculous, Manchester has a street lighting PFI, and now the council are saying they are going to pay the operators of the PFI to essentially replace their 'new' lighting for which private finance was used. If it really saves money the private company running the PFI would fund LED replacements themselves and pocket a proportion of the savings. What a waste.

I was thinking along similar lines myself. Whilst Amey and the council have had trials of LED's, mainly in the Oxford Road corridor, mass uptake has been nonexistent. I had attributed this to the thought that because the PFI is several years in, beyond the 'bulk replacements' stage, essentially redoing all the work once again would be economically unviable.

GEC Z9481 on Stanton 7, Phosco P122 (SO60) on a CU column and a GEC Z9484 "boat" again on a Stanton 7 column. Just as well that was replaced, look at the spalling!

Excellent pictures, welcome to Ukastle. There is a "welcome thread" here if you want to tell us more about yourself.

The GEC 'boat' is actually a Z9486 seeing as it is top entry!
