What type of lantern is this? Used to be just one of these near me used on a casual replacement for a felled column in the early 80s.

That's a GEC Z5560 with a shallow glass bowl.

There's three or four Z5560's round the corner from me... a sort of standalone installation whereby the columns never got sleeved when the rest of the area did. Stelmer's seen them too - but they have Z5590 style bowls.

Thanks for the ID  ;)

I find the GEC Z5560/80/90 range quite confusing in that there seem to be so many different types of bowls in the range!

In another part of the Midlands it looks like Staffordshire's PFI is in full swing.

All the mercury on this lane off the A5 has been replaced. You won't be surprised to know what the replacements are - compact fluorescent, but at least they look nicer than SON.

Oooh, more Urbis Opalo's - the 'new' mercuries.

I hope that these are used in rural areas too rather than glarey SON.

Looks like Lincolnshire's ruined!

As they've Iridumed the front at Mablethorpe and ZX'ed the A52 between Skeggy and Mablethorpe.

I remember Sutton-On-Sea being lit with fluorescents into the early 1990's. I used to beg my parents to go to town at night when visiting my grandparents.

The local streets were lit with Mercury too. The first time I saw them was when I went there as a 6 year old in 1987...
