The UKASTLE AWARDS 2011

Welcome to the winners page for the Ukastle Awards 2011. Every year the Ukastle community votes for which companies, members, installations, or lanterns deserve special recognition by means of an award. The categories are varied to suit the various aspects of Street Lighting, and are divided into Lantern and Installation Categories (awards for the industrial/commercial aspects) and Member Categories (awards for Ukastle members). Each years' winners are decided in November.

Best designed modern lantern

A lantern released in the past 1-3 years that is an ideal balance of aesthetics and functionality

Urbis Senso

Most influential lantern of the year

The lantern that has seen a huge increase in popluarity within the last 1-3 years

Philips Speedstar series

Installation and Maintenance Contractor of the year

Award for the private company which has made noteworthy efforts to keep the lighting stock under their responsibility in working order

Amey (primarily for work within the city of York)

Most interesting installation of the year

Award for an installation (new or old) that is photogenic and worth a visit to see

Siemens Rocket lantern in Beckton, London E6

Most Interesting new lantern design

A lantern that has a truly unique design and looks amazing. Lantern must have been released within the past 5 years.

Philips Speedstar series

Influential lantern/column manufacturer of the year

The company who has seen a rapid increase of their products being installed recently

WRTL

Survivor find of the year

A discovery made of antique lanterns/columns/installations still in good condition that has been found within the last 12 months (open also to non-ukastle members)

GEC Viatrons on cast iron columns, Chalkwell Esplanade in Southend-on-Sea

Saved a Gem

An award for the most interesting or most rare lantern to enter a collection over the past 12 months

Member Categories

Best Photo Contributions / Photographer of the year

Award for the member who has shared well-captured photos of street lighting and shared with the membership (and not just in the Ukastle Gallery)

Collector of the year

For the UKASTLE Member who has received a significant quantity of interesting, good condition, or rare items into their collection over the past 12 months ('items' include lanterns, control gear, timeclocks, cells, literature, lamps etc)

Helping Hand of the year

Award for the member who has been most helpful to other Ukastle member(s) over the last 12 months

Newcomer of the year

Who has really made their mark within the Ukastle community over the past 2 years

Technical Brain of the Year

For the member with the best contribution to technical information over the past year (street lighting)
